The atmospheric environment is the air we breathe ...

The terrestrial biosphere, hydrosphere and the atmosphere are highly dynamic compartments of the Earth system. All three compartments are tightly coupled and strongly interact in a complex way by the exchange of vast quantities of matter and energy. Research in this topic aims at understanding the interaction and feedback processes between soil, vegetation and the atmosphere (water, energy, biogenic greenhouse gases and VOCs) at high temporal and spatial resolution at regional scales. We specialize in observational and experimental approaches that are closely linked to process- and integrated modelling activities.

MICMoR Summer School 2018, August 16-24

Carbon-Nitrogen Interactions across Ecosystems and Scales

The summer school will cover fundamentals of C-N interactions in plants and soils, and how these interactions affect key ecosystem processes such as growth, decompositions, and denitrification and other losses of C and N from ecosystem.

Main lecture: Prof. Christine Goodale, PhD (Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA)

Venue: KIT-Campus Alpin (IMK-IFU), Garmisch-Partenkirchen

SUSALPS conference “Montane and alpine grasslands under climate change – ways in a sustainable future”, 18-20 September 2018

The international SUSALPS conference takes place at KIT-Campus Alpin in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER).

The conference addresses diverse aspects of the challenges and changes in montane and alpine grasslands – looking into the soils and their microbiome, vegetation dynamics, the socio-economic dimension of their ecosystem services and the future of seasonal mountain pastures. Additionally, we want to present innovative approaches to monitor grasslands through remote sensing and the potential of modelling to assess future development pathways. Finally, the conference will present examples of knowledge transfer between science and practice to support a sustainable use of these

ecosystems.

We cordially invite you to submit oral or poster presentations
